Description for 2025/26

A comprehensive understanding of the wider context of business is an essential element for businesses and organisations. In this module, you will explore how evolving political, economic, technological, and societal factors significantly impact business operations and models. You will also gain insights into economic principles with international trade, sustainability, and environmental considerations. By understanding the importance of context in business activities, you will examine the reciprocal influence between organizations and their wider environment.

Aims
This module introduces students to the key political, economic, technological, and societal factors that influence global business operations, enabling them to understand how these external forces shape business strategies and decision-making processes in an increasingly interconnected and globalised context.
Students will develop foundational knowledge of economic principles, international trade, and sustainability, equipping them with the tools to analyse the global business environment and its impact on organisational performance and business models.
The module fosters an understanding of the dynamic relationship between businesses and their broader environment, encouraging students to explore how organisations both shape and are shaped by global trends and external pressures.
Additionally, it promotes critical thinking and independent learning skills, preparing students to engage effectively with complex, real-world challenges in the global business landscape.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Group Assessment weighted 40%
Global Business Issue Analysis and Recommendations
Groups of students will create a 10-12 minute video presentation explaining how a global business issue impacts a specified sector or organisation and provide actionable recommendations. Groups, consisting of 3-5 members, will be determined by the module lecturer before the start of the group work. To ensure fairness, an element of peer assessment will be included.

2: Assignment weighted 60%
Case study analysis and recommendations assignment
Students will be presented with a case study based on a real-world global business scenario. They will be required to provide an in-depth analysis and actionable recommendations, presented in a report of up to 2,000 words (excluding references).
