This module examines the rise of the phenomenon of 'adult abuse' and the attempts to understand its cause and effect, and to define and measure the phenomenon. Students have the opportunity to apply methodologies from different disciplines and an attempt to understand the idea of safeguarding. Central concepts to the understanding of adults safeguarding are explored from legal, practice and ethical perspectives, including, autonomy, empowerment, vulnerability and protection.
Aims
To introduce students to the emergence of adult safeguarding as a social phenomenon and to gain understanding of relevant research literature. The module will provide a broad and firm foundation for advanced study on the topic of safeguarding.
Intended Learning Outcomes
