Description for 2024/25

This module within the MA in Safeguarding Adults is designed to offer students the opportunity to examine in depth the relationship between the carer and the cared for person. It will examine how the law impacts on that relationship, supporting carers but also taken sanctions in actual and potentially abusive situations. It considers the ethics of care, conflicts in caring and the role of carers in wider society.

Aims
To examine the role of carers in relation to adults safeguarding and gain understanding of relevant law, practice and research literature.

Critically examine the impact on carers of the development of community care policy: 1
Critically evaluate the potential conflicts between the carer and cared for person and the 'ethics of care': 1
Demonstrate systematic knowledge of the situations and mechanisms where the caring role is regulated to safeguard the cared for person: 1
Critically analyse and interpret case law decisions relating to the role of carers.: 1
Qualitatively appraise the law relating to carer support in relation to a range of caring situations: 1
