Aims
This module aims to provide students the critical skills to engage with socio-legal literature, legislation, case law and policy materials to critique how the law constructs, regulates, protects and transform family relationships.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a critical understanding of how and why the law regulates family relations: 2
Critically evaluate the different approaches of private and public family law: 1
Analyse case law to identify developments in family law.: 1
Critique socio-legal perspectives on the family: 2
Critically assess how reform proposals impact family law: 2

Case Analysis
This assessment will require the student to provide an analysis of a seen case to identify how this develops legal practice (2,500 words)

2: Essay weighted 60%
Research based essay
This essay will provide the student the opportunity to critically engage with the key concepts through the module and engage in independent research. ( Word count 3500)
