Description for 2025/26

This module offers a comprehensive introduction to the analytical skills essential for navigating modern finance and accounting landscapes. A hands-on approach is emphasized, with students utilizing real-world financial data from the Bloomberg terminal. Additionally, students receive a brief introduction to Excel, and a programming language such as Python. Familiarity with common terminology used in the field of finance and accounting is also a key component of this module.

Aims
The module aims to familiarise students with some key tools and techniques useful for developing and analysing quantitative models. Students will develop their knowledge of tools and techniques for presenting and analysing financial, accounting and business data and essential statistical methods such as the methodology for sampling that are necessary for the study of Finance, Accounting and related disciplines.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Open Book Assessment weighted 40%
Computer based test (open book)
This is a 90-minute online assessment representing a set of computer-based tasks that cover the first half of the module syllabus, taught in Semester 1. The assessment will be available on the KLE for 28-hours for students to complete and submit their answers. Students will be informed that they will have 28-hour access to their computer-based assessment, but once they start the assessment they should finish and submit their answers in 90-minutes, adjusted for eligible students, otherwise the system will submit their answers automatically.

This is a portfolio of assignments involving statistical data analysis undertaken during the semester and submitted at the end of the Semester. Approximately 1500 words.
