The Evidence in Sports and Exercise Medicine module builds on content introduced in Year 1 and enables you to extract key information and begin to discuss literature relevant to practice.You will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required to assess quality of research methodology both qualitative and quantitative and understand common statistical terminology used for evidence based research.The module aims to prepare you to integrate research into clinical practice whilst also developing transferable skills (such as academic writing, presentation of an argument) that can be applied in a variety of sport and exercise settings and specialities.
Aims
Introduce the concept of using evidence to support best practice, demonstrate the need for critical reading, thinking and writing, while developing the students knowledge and understanding of research principles.Enable students to effectively describe, compare and evaluate findings from sport, rehabilitation and exercise medicine related research.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Class Test weighted 60%Online Computer Task of 60 minutes durationStudents will be provided with an article relating to sport and exercise medicine, they will be required to provide a summary of the article (focusing on the study design, participants recruited, interventions, outcome measures, and key findings) and provide a critical appraisal of an article (using an amended Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklist).
2: Report weighted 40%Literature Search Written ReportStudents demonstrate knowledge and skills in writing a research question and search strategy in a 750-word written report. The assessment has 4 components: select a scenario from the choices available, write a clinical question, formulate PICO search terms, and present the search strategy.
