Description for 2026/27

The module builds on content introduced in Year 1 and Year 2 and offers you some choice in research themes/topics.

The module reflects the shifting emphasis away from increasing the quantity of care towards enhancing the quality of care, moving away from a medical disease model towards a health model based on personal responsibility and prevention of disease.

Aims
This module aims to develop the students knowledge and skills required to conduct research.

Research and present a justification for a proposed research question: 1
Design a coherent research proposal, linking appropriate methods of research design to answer a specific research question: 2
Evaluate anticipated data/information gathered in order to present appropriate methods of analysis that are coherent with answering a specific research question: 2
Identify, appraise and manage any ethical implications for a specific research question: 2
Review appropriate strategies for potential dissemination of the proposed research: 2

1: Dissertation Plan weighted 0%
Research Project Justification and Outline
A 750-word ‘Research Project Justification and Outline’ that will require a brief rationale, proposed methods of data collection, and initial ethical considerations.

2: Research Proposal weighted 100%
Research Proposal (1500 words)
A 1500-word assessment that comprises a rationale for the intended research project and a proposal for the intended methods of data collection and data analysis.
