Description for 2023/24

ESC-40006, Research Report, is one of three modules belonging to the Year 4/Level 7 MGeology research project. It focuses on communication of the methods, results and conclusions of the research project in the format of a report of approximately 7000 words in length that is written in the format of a journal paper. The report is accompanied by a poster providing a visual summary of methodology, data interpretation and analysis, and conclusions from the project. Students use the material presented on their poster to deliver a 10 minute presentation during a conference-style presentation session.

Aims
To communicate the methods, results and conclusions of the MGeology research project.

Study hours

- 2 hours: workshop providing guidance on the format of the report.
- 6 hours: meetings with project supervisor specifically to discuss the project report and poster presentation.
- 24 hours poster and oral presentation preparation.
- 118 hours writing of research report.

1: Report weighted 85%
Research Project Report
Report on MGeology independent research project of approximately 7000 words in length and written in the format of a journal paper.

2: Poster Presentation weighted 15%
Poster Presentation
Submission of poster on MGeology research project and delivery of a 10 minute presentation within a conference type environment.
