Description for 2025/26

Think that writing for children is simple or innocent? Think again. In this module you will look at a range of classic post-war British fiction for children including works of fantasy, historical novels, studies of growing up, and works exploring the nature of belief. Equipped with a module 'toolkit' (in other words a shared body of critical and theoretical concepts, methods and themes), you will develop your understanding of children's fiction alongside other students, with classes and one-to-one meetings to support your assessments.

To develop skills of literary interpretation and close textual analysis.
To provide an extended induction to academic practice in English
