Description for 2024/25

This module is aimed at allowing the student to gain significant industrial experience in the application of the skills and knowledge obtained on the taught part of the course.
Application for this module is competitive and not all students may be successful in obtaining a placement.
The student may find their own placement using either personal contacts or those provided by the school and other sources. If the student finds their own placement it is subject to approval by the School.

Aims
The aim of this module is to encourage and enable students to gain work experience and to develop and apply their skills within the IT industry.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify, evaluate and propose possible solutions to an identified issue. This will be subject to an agreed Project Proposal: 1,3
Present and prepare a summary report jointly to the employer and faculty: 2,3,4
Work independently and within the guidelines and parameters of the sponsoring organisation: 3
Demonstrate competence in a wide range of transferable skills to the satisfaction of the employer in a way agreed in a learning contract: 1,2,4

This is an industrial placement module and has no formal taught component apart from the project talks at various stages of the module.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Reflective Analysis weighted 50%
Reflective Analysis
Completion of a 7000 word report: A reflective account of the students's experience of the organisation and of the work they have carried out during the placement.

2: Presentation weighted 25%
Presentation
Completion of a presentation to the host company management team and the Keele member of staff who is functioning as Project Supervisor. The mentor from within the organisation will provide feedback which will also be submitted.

3: Reflective Diary weighted 15%
Reflective Diary
A reflective diary of the placement of about 2000 words must be completed. This can be also in the form of a Blog.

4: Performance weighted 10%
Employer Feedback
Assessment using information provided by the employer in agreement with the member of the Keele staff acting as project supervisor at the end of the placement using a framework provided by the university. (This will carry 10% of the final marks.) It will consider and assess - Student Performance - The Management Report - Overall performance/contribution
