This module is relevant to healthcare professionals who want to develop an understanding of the principles of research, the appropriate use of methodological approaches, and to understand how selected methods may be applied to researching practice in a healthcare setting. It will also allow you to consider how to report and present research to an audience. The research proposal produced will form the starting point for a Masters research project in clinical education.
Aims
This module will introduce students to the principles of research, the appropriate use of methodological approaches and to enable them to understand how selected methods may be applied to researching and evaluating practice.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Professional Development weighted 0%Peer review of a research proposal (500 words)Each student is required to develop their research proposal and then share it with a peer in the group for peer feedback. The purpose of the assessment is to assist with the development of the research proposals and professional development of the student in providing informed constructive feedback on research methods and design. All students will give and receive feedback to and from a peer.
2: Research Proposal weighted 100%Design a research proposalDesign a research focused research question from your own area of clinical education and develop a study to answer that question. Place your research study into context with a brief background literature, a reasoned critical analysis of your choice of theoretical perspective and a description of proposed; ethical implications, sampling and recruitment, data collection, analysis and anticipated outcomes - maximum 3500 words, excluding appendices and feedback form from peer review
