Description for 2025/26

Students will explore, and critique extant theory and practice pertaining to digital education and use this knowledge to design and develop their own digital education approach to address a perceived gap in knowledge or practice for a group of learners. This module will be delivered fully online asynchronously to fit in with busy working professionals.

Aims
This module aims to enhance students’ critical understanding of the strategies, techniques and pedagogies used to enrich online learning through the selection and application of digital learning technologies.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate the use of digital technologies in both formal and informal educational settings and relate this to their own needs and clinical practice.: 2
Demonstrate a critical awareness of the evolving role of the clinical teacher and the student as digital learning develops, and recognise access issues in terms of culture, language, inclusion and digital literacy: 2

Description of Module Assessment

1: Project weighted 50%
Digital learning project
The design, development, and evaluation of a work-based digital learning activity or resource that fills an identified gap in clinical education knowledge or practice. This could be a game, an in-depth clinical video tutorial, or a piece of e-learning.

2: Essay weighted 50%
Critical Discussion
A 2000-word critically reflective discussion of the education theories and models the student has analysed and applied to the design of their project (Assessment 1).
