Description for 2024/25

The module introduce key concepts of international corporate governance and sustainability, theoretical approaches of explaining governance and sustainability practices, mechanisms of implementing and managing corporate governance and sustainability activities. The module will familiarize students with national and international codes of governance and demonstrate the global initiatives of sustainability reporting. The module will further explain how use of governance and sustainability information can enhance decision-making at a company level and help stakeholders to assess the corporate financial and non-financial performance. Finally, the module will also outline the future of corporate governance and sustainability.

Aims
1. Introduce students to the origins of the notions and the debates in corporate governance and sustainability
2. Help the students to critically investigate the rationale for sustainability in corporations and financial institutions
3. Critically examine the key theoretical frameworks to the study of corporate governance and sustainability practices
4. Analyse and assess the practice of corporate governance and sustainability in business units, financial markets
5. Encourage students to critically appreciate the importance of both personal and professional ethics in decision-making process and moral behaviour in corporations
6. Develop students¿ skills in research, both oral and written communication, and analytical and critical thinking

Critically analyse the historical origins and the evolution of the notions of corporate governance and sustainability
