Description for 2025/26

This module provides the key foundations of English language teaching. The module includes an introduction to the structure of the English language. It also introduces you to the principal methodologies and techniques such as classroom management and lesson planning, as well as practical skills such as giving instructions and board work. You will have the opportunity to experience learning an unknown language, as well as plan and deliver language classes.

Aims
To introduce students to the main phonological, lexical and syntactic features of contemporary spoken and written English.
To provide students with an overview of the field of English language teaching and practice in a variety of language teaching methods.
To begin to develop skills in teaching practice and classroom management including observing experienced teachers.
To offer practical experience of learning an unknown language.
