Sport, physical activity and exercise play an essential part in many people¿s lives. Moreover, they play a significant role in society both from local and international perspectives. This introductory module aims to provide you with an opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of how key psychology theories and models are applied to sport, physical activity and exercise contexts. You will be introduced to issues and concepts in sport and exercise psychology and how sport and exercise psychology is used to examine and support sport, physical activity and exercise in everyday life as well as elite and professional sport and performance.
Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce key psychological theory and to develop students understanding of some of the key concepts underpinning the psychology of sport and exercise participation and performance.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Research Report weighted 60%Laboratory ReportStudent are required to produce a written laboratory report (literature review, methodology and
results) investigating the impact of different practice schedules on the learning of a simple
motor task. Students will collect data during seminar/practical class time to inform this report.
1500 words.
2: Group Assessment weighted 40%Group presentationIn small groups, students will present on an area of sports and exercise psychology presented in the module and apply it to a participant, athlete or team. Based on the available literature in the area, they will, for example, provide recommendations on ways in which the subject (person or team) could improve their performance under pressure, or provide recommendations on how to improve a team¿s cohesion or similar relevant topic area. Students will be asked to present and evaluate literature related to the athlete or team and the relevant area of sport and exercise psychology they choose to focus on. 10 minute presentation.
