This is the first clinical nursing practice module in the first year of a three-year programme leading towards a BSc (Hons) in Adult, Children¿s, Learning Disability or Mental Health Nursing and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The module enables the student to apply person-centred nursing care and develop their communication and reflective skills in a clinical practice setting related to their field of practice and in simulated placement learning. Students are supported by a practice supervisor, practice assessor and academic assessor.
Aims
to- Develop clinical nursing practice knowledge, skills and professional values, in their first year of nursing during their nursing placement in their chosen field of nursing practice.- Learn and practise clinical skills in a simulated environment and apply in practice settings- Develop reflective practice skills to aid integration of theory and practice learning

Intended Learning Outcomes

Breakdown of active learning hours- In situ- 24hrs (Lectures, discussion, seminars, tutorials, workshops, practical classes, assessment preparation and simulation) Synchronous- 11hrs (Lectures, tutorials) Asynchronous ¿ 41 (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work) Placement learning hours - 375Independent study hours- Independent ¿ 224 (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation) Due to the dynamic nature of nursing programmes, the above breakdown may be subject to alteration.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Coursework weighted 0%Assessment of proficiencies including professional values and medicines managementAssessment of all professional values and assessment of selected practice learning outcomes from the practice proficiencies within the Midlands Yorkshire & East Practice Assessment Document (MYEPAD). Students will have professional values summatively assessed at the end of placement, when they are required to achieve all professional values. The students will liaise with their practice supervisors/ practice assessors to select the proficiencies to be achieved during the clinical placement. Medicines management is an assessment that can be undertaken across the part and must be passed to complete the part.
2: Practice Based Assessment weighted 25%A 30 minute episode of care assessmentA 30 minute episode of care assessment in a clinical practice setting where the student demonstrates competence in a defined set of knowledge, skills and behaviours in meeting the needs of a service user in a specific episode of person-centred care, including accurate assessment of needs, supportive management, health promotion, knowledge of safeguarding, and demonstration of professional values
