Description for 2023/24

In this module, you will learn about the pathophysiology, aetiology, and predisposing factors of a number of common neurological, neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders.
You will study clinical manifestations of neurological disorders, cellular and molecular mechanisms, and advances made in diagnosis, prevention, prediction and treatments of these pathologies.
Problem Based learning (PBL) sessions will enable you to develop transferable skills such as team work, group-based learning, and problem solving.

Aims
The module aims to provide a detailed critical understanding of the theories and techniques underlying modern research into the aetiology, pathology, underlying mechanisms, prevention and treatment of human neurological disorders.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Coursework weighted 50%
Problem based learning questionnaire.
Students will work in groups of approximately 10 to evaluate a case study. Each learner will independently answer a questionnaire based on the topic they have studied as a group. Each questionnaire will consist of 6-12 short answer questions.

2: Open Book Examination weighted 50%
2 h online open-book assessment with a 28-hour assessment window
ONE essay-based question from a choice of three. Typical answers would be in the range of 500-750 words per topic. We recommend that students do not exceed 750 words per essay-based question as we will be assessing the quality of your answer, not the quantity. Students are expected to complete this work within 2hour.
