This module will give you an insight into the wonderful world of animals. It is designed to give you the fundamental knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology so that it will allow you to explore the diversity of animals in the world in which we live. You will consider the differences in the main body systems between the different taxonomic groups and investigate the weird and wonderful examples of both vertebrate and invertebrate life through lectures, lab work and practical work.
Aims
The module will introduce key differences in the anatomy and physiology of a range of animal body systems and will be supported by specific examples.

This module is compulsory for single hons Biology students but would only be open to BSc Natural Science Level 4 as an elective module therefore would have a co-requisite of students only being able to select it as an elective if NAT-10001 is also being taken.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Computer Task weighted 16%Assessed Workbook - Locust dissectionThere are 6 online workbooks on the module, the first workbook will be formative allowing you to have a practice at this assessment and get some feedback. The remaining 5 online workbooks will summative. Each will carry equal weighting.
This first summative online workbook will be based on the locust dissection practical.
2: Computer Task weighted 16%Assessed Workbook - Hydra dissectionThis online workbook will be based on the hydra dissection practical.
3: Computer Task weighted 16%Assessed Workbook - owl pellet dissectionThis online workbook will be based on the owl pellet dissection practical.
4: Computer Task weighted 16%Assessed Workbook - insect choice chambersThis online workbook will be based on the insect choice chambers practical.
5: Computer Task weighted 16%Assessed Workbook - fish dissectionThis online workbook will be based on the locust dissection practical.
6: Presentation weighted 20%Peer-assessed group poster or presentationYou will produce a group presentation using either a poster or powerpoint based on the anatomical and physiological adaptations of your allocated taxa. It will be approximately 10 minutes in length. This will be completed in small groups of 3 to 4 students and will both be peer-assessed and assessed by the tutor. All groups will be given a tutor mark and a mark by the rest of the group based on your contribution. The tutor mark will contribute 80% and the peer-mark 20%
