Volcanoes and the Environment provides students with a systematic and comprehensive understanding of volcanoes and volcanic phenomena, and how volcanism shapes and affects the environment.During interactive lectures and practical classes, students will acquire and deploy subject-specific skills and modern methods in volcanology to interpret and critically evaluate volcanological data and solve volcanological problems.
Aims
The aim of this module is to provide students with a systematic and comprehensive understanding of volcanic phenomena and processes, and how volcanism shapes and affects the environment.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Class Test weighted 50%Class TestA 2-hour long class test, assessing both theoretical aspects and practical work students completed over the course of the module on aspects of volcanic processes or the effects of volcanism on the environment.
2: Report weighted 50%2,000 word illustrated reportStudents will produce an illustrated report on aspects of volcanic processes or the effects of volcanism on the environment. The assessment will contain elements of virtual geological outcrop description, data analysis and interpretation of results. Indicative length: 2,000 words.
