Description for 2023/24

This module aims to introduce and foster the development of a range of skills and techniques that are relevant to the interdisciplinary study of Environmental Science and Sustainability. It will allow students to develop an awareness of the nature, causes and scope of environmental problems and controversies and an understanding of the various methods, tools and processes that are applied in the search for solutions.

Aims
This module aims to introduce and foster the development of core knowledge and understanding and of a range of skills and techniques that are relevant to the interdisciplinary study of Environmental Science, Environment and Sustainability, and Ecology and Conservation. Student will develop an awareness of the nature, causes and scope of environmental issues and an experience and understanding some of the key methods, tools and processes that are applied in the workplace and in the search for solutions to problems and controversies.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Portfolio weighted 50%
Essay portfolio
Essay of approximately 1000 words in answer to the question "What is the biggest environmental, ecological or sustainability problem that society faces and how can we solve this?" and Report of approximately 1000 words on student choice of 1 of 3 workshops

2: Portfolio weighted 50%
Portfolio of fieldwork report and reflective writing
(1) Report of approximately 1500 words assessing the Keele lakes and surrounding environment and (2) Article of approximately 500 words discussing your learning journey and demonstrating reflective practice
