Description for 2022/23

This module enables you to apply fundamentals of nursing care and develop their communication and reflective skills in a clinical practice setting related to your field of practice and in simulated placement learning. Students are supported by a practice supervisor, practice assessor and academic assessor.

Aims
to:
introduce you to your chosen field of clinical nursing practice and develop clinical nursing practice knowledge, skills and professional values in your first year.
- Learn and practise clinical skills in a simulated environment and apply to practice settings.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate safe, effective, compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice in a clinical setting in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) through successful completion of remaining practice proficiencies within the practice assessment document with a focus on fundamentals of nursing practice: 1

Study hours

Breakdown of scheduled teaching hours-
In situ- 34hrs (Lectures, seminars, tutorial, workshops, practical classes, assessment preparation and simulation)
Synchronous- 10hrs (Lectures, tutorials)
Placement learning hours- 300hrs
Breakdown of Independent study hours-
Asynchronous - 40hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work)
Independent study - 216hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation)

Description of Module Assessment

1: Coursework weighted 0%
Assessment of proficiencies including professional values and medicines management
Assessment of all professional values and assessment of remaining practice learning outcomes from the practice proficiencies within the Midlands Yorkshire & East Practice Assessment Document (MYEPAD). Practice Supervisor/ Practice Assessor will assess professional values, at the end of the placement the student is required to achieve all professional values. The students will liaise with their practice supervisors/ practice assessors to ensure all proficiencies are achieved during the clinical placement (with exception: starred proficiencies can be completed in Part 2 or Part 3). Medicines management must be achieved by the end of final summative placement.

A 30 minute episode of care assessment in the clinical practice setting for this module where the student demonstrates competence in a defined set of knowledge, skills and behaviours in meeting the needs of a service user in their field of nursing, including accurate assessment of needs, supportive management, health promotion, knowledge of safeguarding, and demonstration of professional values
