Description for 2020/21

This module constitutes a final year practice learning opportunity and associated assessed work. Students at this level are expected to consolidate learning from the skills module, practice learning and learning achieved in completing academic modules in years one and two, in order to demonstrate knowledge, skills and values commensurate with being a final year student.
This module meets the requirements set by the professional and regulatory bodies.

Aims
This module seeks to enhance students' interventive repertoire and develop their sense of themselves as professional social workers, responsible for their practice within the context of their agency. In particular, this module will assist students in:
developing their confidence and competence when working in situations that present risks to themselves, service users and others, balancing the rights and responsibilities of each;
understanding their personal and professional responsibilities in carrying out their duties on the terms set out in agency protocols and procedures for managing risk;
working effectively within a social work agency;
acquiring a sense of responsibility for their own continuing professional development through the identification of current and future learning needs;
ensuring that their practice rests on a secure foundation of social scientific, experiential and other verifiable forms of knowledge.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Placement weighted 0%
Professional supervision
Students must pass three direct observations of practice as well as evidencing achievement of knowledge, skills and values appropriate to stage 2 practice education. The direct observation and practice educator reports are included in the portfolio (below) and are independently assessed by the practice educator and a practice assessment panel.

2: Portfolio weighted 100%
Practice Portfolio - 6,000 words
Evaluation of practice including: An outline of the practice setting (500 words), Account of work undertaken, (1,000 words), Analysis of practice (4,000 words), Evaluation of Learning (500 words).
