Description for 2020/21

The module content will be delivered using a blended learning approach. Inter-professional learning will begin with a plenary introduction, followed by small group work facilitated by a member of academic staff. A variety of professions will be represented in each seminar group, and membership will remain the same for the duration of the inter-professional sessional work. Students are expected to undertake both directed and self-directed learning.

Aims
The overall aim is to develop the students' understanding of the critical importance of communication and teamwork (using root cause analysis) in the safe and effective delivery of health care. This will be explored through interdisciplinary analysis of a care delivery problem that has compromised patient safety. Individual assessment will involve analysis of a scenario from a practice experience environment episode of regarding interdisciplinary negotiation to optimise care delivery for a specific patient (service user).

Study hours

Module content will be delivered using a blended learning approach.
Inter-professional learning will begin with a plenary introduction, followed by small group work facilitated by a member of academic staff. A variety of professions will be represented in each seminar group. Membership will remain the same for the duration of the inter-professional scheduled teaching. Students are expected to undertake both directed and self-directed learning. Formative assessment will be offered following submission of a group report.
It is anticipated that guided independent study hours will include approximately 69 hours of practice experience. This is derived from a total of 413 hours, averaged across all six assessed modules in year 2.
