Description for 2020/21

This module complements the programme content introduced in Level 4 and in Level 5 in relation to health behaviour change and physical activity and exercise prescription in specialist populations. The focus of the module is on cardiac and pulmonary populations; it will deepen the student's understanding of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and enable the student to analyse an individual's rehabilitation needs.

Aims
To deepen the student's understanding of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation
To develop the student's ability to critically evaluate rehabilitation programmes for cardiac and pulmonary populations
To enable the student to analyse an individual's rehabilitation needs and plan an effective evidence-based rehabilitation strategy for that individual

Study hours

30 tutor led hours which may include lectures, practical classes and workshops, seminars, tutorials and two hours of assessment preparation classes etc.
120 hours of independent study.

School Rules

Successful completion of a minimum of 105 credits of the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Science at Level 5, normally at Keele University.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Report weighted 40%
1000 word Referenced Report
Students will submit a 1000 word referenced report analysing the rehabilitation needs of a given case with EITHER a cardiac OR a pulmonary condition. The case will be 'seen', and there will be an element of student choice.

2: Oral Exam weighted 60%
20 minute Oral Examination
Students will attend a 20 minute oral examination informed by the report (Assessment 1). The examination will be a critical discussion of the rehabilitation strategy/ies proposed to address the needs of the seen case.
