Description for 2020/21

The Principles of Rehabilitation module introduces the student to concepts of functioning, disability and rehabilitation. Students will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required to manage the potential aspect of disability in common conditions such as diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease. The module aims to provide the student with strategies to tackle the potential impact of disability and restore function.

Aims
To introduce the student to the science and classification of disability and functioning.
To explore the how disability impacts on functioning.
To introduce the student to rehabilitation strategies which minimise the impact of disability in common conditions.

Study hours

30 tutor led hours which may include lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials and two hours of assessment preparation classes etc.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Essay weighted 100%
A 2000 word essay
From a choice of common conditions, students will choose one condition and discuss the relevance of classification, incidence, prevalence and presentation of their chosen condition and potential impact on disability and functioning for an individual. MSci Physiotherapy students will discuss the role of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of the chosen condition. BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation and Exercise Science students will discuss the steps being taken to reduce the impact of the chosen condition.
