Description for 2020/21

This module will introduce you to the ways in which person-centred counselling theory is applied within a therapeutic context. You will learn about counselling processes, for work with individuals about ethical, practice and therapeutic issues in counselling. You will also learn about some examples of the contexts in which counselling occurs, from experienced counselling practitioners. Your learning will be underpinned by a combination of lecture-style classes and discussion-focused seminars, alongside independent study. The learning you gain in this module will prepare you for subsequent modules in the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling programme, in which you will focus on your own skills and personal development .

Aims
Students will be introduced to the principles underpinning the application of person-centred counselling theory, studied in PSY-20041, to the practice of counselling in a therapeutic context. This will provide them with a good foundation for level 6 counselling-focused modules within the BSc Psychology with Counselling programme, in which they start to work in a more applied and practical way.
