Description for 2020/21

This module will allow students to apply and develop the core knowledge and key skills gained throughout the programme at all levels to an extended research project, and to develop practical research and critical evaluation skills that are used routinely by professional scientists.
Students will apply their skills in choosing an appropriate research methodology and techniques, gaining ethical approval for their work where necessary, and will carry out all aspects of data acquisition and collation associated with their chosen research project. The analysis and critical evaluation of the significance of the results obtained during the project will be presented within a full report of the project outcomes and also in a presentation that will be assessed, in part, by their peers, reflecting professional practice.

Aims
This module aims to apply and develop students' knowledge and key skills gained throughout the course at all levels to an extended research project, and to develop practical research, critical evaluation and reporting skills that are used routinely by professional scientists.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Research Report weighted 80%
Research Report
6000-word report containing a detailed literature review, and an account of the work undertaken and results generated during students' individual research into an area of pharmaceutical science of their choice. Low stakes assessments (LSAs) will make up 10% of this component. There will be five small engagement tasks of equal weighting (2%); one of these being a project activity journal.

2: Presentation weighted 20%
Presentation covering research undertaken during the project
Students will deliver a presentation (10 minutes including questions) in a session of approximately 90 minutes in duration with 8-10 other students. The presentation will cover the work undertaken and results generated during the student's individual research into an area of pharmaceutical science of their choice. Students are required to contribute towards the questioning of their peers in this presentation session.
