Description for 2020/21

This module is one of 3 within your final year of your programme and compulsory. It will support you to critically evaluate the organisation of the maternity service. Drawing on your experiences of working within the maternity service, you will explore different ways of organising care using quality improvement and change management processes, evaluating the impact on women, new born infants, partners and families. You will develop an innovative proposal for maternity service enhancement which reflects the local, national and international evidence base and recognises the importance of sustainable health care.
You will be supported by theory sessions and personal tutorials to enable you to develop your maternity service improvement.
You need to pass this module along with the 2 other modules in order to successfully complete the year and graduate.

Explore the organisation of care and how effectively the maternity service safeguards and prioritises the needs and preferences of women and newborn infants. 
Investigate the drivers and challenges associated with changing service provision and enhancing the sustainability of the maternity service.
Encourage you to critically analyse the evidence base and data to support and inform best midwifery policy and practice and your service improvement.

Study hours

This module will comprise of 60hrs of scheduled learning via either face-to-face, online or group work sessions, 390hrs of independent study comprising 60 hours directed study related to module content and 330 hrs self directed and assessment preparation.
