Description for 2020/21

This module will address issues such as the aesthetic implications of various forms of art, music sub-genres, social issues concerning the production, comprehension and dissemination of technology-enabled forms of artistic expressions. Teaching will mainly comprise class discussion of set readings.

Aims
To provide a forum for discussion of cultural, aesthetic, historical and socio-political issues related to arts, music and technology.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Formulate arguments relating to cultural, aesthetic, historical and sociopolitical issues related to arts, music technology as a cultural artefact: 1,2
Address the aesthetic implications of style of technologically-enabled forms of art and the social issues and implications related to their production, dissemination and comprehension: 1,2
Appraise the interaction between artistic production enabled by modern digital technology and its audiences: 1,2
Synthesise arguments using insight from relevant readings as we all as personal experiences as producers/users to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relations between technology, arts, society: 1,2

Description of Module Assessment

1: Essay weighted 80%
Essay
An essay of 3000 words. Students will choose from a list of essay questions related to the articles discussed and presented in class throughout the semester.

2: Presentation weighted 20%
PRESENTATION
Individual presentation on assigned article. Duration: 20-30 minutes plus 10-15 minutes for question and answers.
