Description for 2020/21

This module introduces students to the key institutions, methods and principles of UK and EU Constitutional Law.
Emphasis is placed on discovering the basic foundations for the legal relationships between the citizen and the state - and the status of the various public law 'players' (the legislature, government departments and the courts). The module examines the reality of power relations inherent in a modern democracy and the necessity for, and the importance of, recent Human Rights legislation.
The module also introduces students to the fundamental principles which lie behind the practice of EU public law and 'public law' generally.

To introduce students to the key institutions, methods and principles of UK and EU Constitutional Law.
Students will critically assess the importance of EU and UK Constitutional Law as a site of engagement for individuals and groups interested in legal reforms by conducting legal research and solving practical problems.

Articulate a detailed knowledge of the relevant legal principles underpinning UK and EU Constitutional Law: 1
Acquire advanced critical understanding of specific cases and recent political developments and their relevance to the development of UK and EU Constitutional Law: 1
Undertake independent legal research and analyse key issues in UK and EU Constitutional Law: 1
