Description for 2020/21

This module facilitates acquisition by the students of knowledge of current research in the subject matter of their year 4 research project, and to evaluate the outcome of the project in relation to other work in the field.
The emphasis of this module is to carry out a thorough searching and synthesis of the published literature available in the area of the research being conducted, and to be able to relate their own research to that of others carrying out work in similar fields.

Aims
To acquire knowledge of current research in the subject matter of the year 4 research project, and to evaluate the outcome of the project in relation to other work in the field.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Literature Review weighted 80%
PROJECT LITERATURE REVIEW - 3000 WORDS
The literature review mark will be split across two components, a draft literature review submitted in Semester 1 (10%) and a literature synthesis (90%) submitted in Semester 2.

2: Research Participation weighted 20%
1500 word report based on participation in Departmental Research Seminar Series
Research participation of members of the Level 4 MGeoscience class in the Geography, Geology and the Environment Seminar Series will be assessed by production by individual students of a 3000-word review report on any one talk (of their choosing) from the Seminar Series of the entire academic year. This review will be due at the end of Semester 2.
