Prerequisites

(1) Average of 55% at level 4 and 5a, no reassessment as 2nd attempt at level 5a, and (2) general aptitude (to be by application for study abroad, interview during 2nd semester of level 5a, and by recommendation of personal tutor, 1st and 2nd year tutors and programme director, as appropriate).

Barred Combinations

This module is only available to single honours students registered for the 4-year 'with international year' degree programmes. It is not available to students taking the following four-year degree programmes:
- MGeoscience
- MSci Natural Sciences
- BSc Environmental Science with work placement year
- BSc Environment and Sustainability with work placement year

Description for 2020/21

This module allows students to complete a year of study related to their degree programme in an approved institution in another country. Such study may include components relating to the learning or further development of a foreign language and cultural engagement, in addition to the study of the students's core subject in an international context. The topic that students will study will be appropriate to the FHEQ Level 5 or higher and agreed between the student and his/her School's Study Abroad Coordinator prior to the start of the international year.

This module aims to:
1. provide students with the opportunity to enhance their personal and professional development as a student, with an appreciation of the international dimension of their subject;
2. gain experience of a different culture, academically, professionally and socially.

Study hours

Students will be overseas on a study abroad year at an approved institution in another country. Their studies will be split between directed and non-directed private study at their partner institution.
