The Independent Research Project or Dissertation is a negotiated piece of work of 8,000-10,000 words in length. Projects will be on an educational topic (broadly-defined) and should include explicit discussion of theoretical frameworks, methods involved in the collection of data, and matters of analysis and interpretation. The module consists of workshops which are organised around thesis writing and students receive individual support via a nominated supervisor. Taught sessions include topics such as: Conducting and writing literature reviews; Applying for ethical approval; Analysing data; Writing up the dissertation.
Aims
to enable students to work independently, but with the support of a supervisor to produce a significant piece of research in a defined area at the forefront of educational studies.
