Description for 2020/21

The British and Global Economy module provides an introduction to developments in the global economy from an historical perspective.
The module examines how capitalist industrial economies developed from the industrial revolution in Britain and elsewhere.
The module also explores the development of the international economy in the 20th century, exploring themes that include (indicatively) the emergence of the newly industrialised economies, the Great Depression in the inter-war years, and growth and development after World War II.

Aims
The British and Global Economy module provides an introduction to developments in the global economy from an historical perspective.
The module examines how capitalist industrial economies developed from the industrial revolution in Britain and elsewhere.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Open Book Examination weighted 50%
Take-away Exam
Assessment 1 is a take-away exam which will be available on KLE for 24-hours. Although students are given significant time to complete this exam script, we expect students to spend no more than 2 hours to complete and submit their answers via Turnitin (with a maximum of 1000 words).

2: Essay weighted 50%
1000 Word essay with reflective element
End-of-semester essay on one from a list of topics covered in the module. A reflective element will require students to write how they have approached the module and how that has facilitated their learning, in particular how they engaged with academic reading lists, library searches and referencing. Indicative split of marks: Two-thirds for academic writing and one-third for the reflective element.
