Description for 2020/21

Software engineering is not simply a matter of technical expertise in requirements, specification, design, implementation and maintenance (as taught in prerequisite modules). The process and practice of software engineering requires leadership and management. This module reviews practices in project management, and uses these to explore how people and cultures relate to successful project management and leadership. The module reflects on traditional and state-of-the-art industrial software engineering management. Students are expected to research topics and apply concepts, ideas and reading to management scenarios.

To provide an understanding of the principles of project management, and specifically the scope of, and problems and techniques associated with, software engineering project management.

Study hours

Around 15 hours of online study material including links to online texts and videos, as well as specific texts and videos prepared for the module.
Approximately 5 hours of online live sessions: Q&A, discussion topics, review of material.
60 hours of self-directed learning and research, following up on the topics online.
