Description for 2020/21

This module puts sustainable chemistry within a global context, looking at processes and technology that influence everyday life. The use of chemistry in human processes and the associated environmental implications will be analysed. Issues surrounding the sustainability of chemical processes form key aspects of the course content with students developing problem solving, information retrieval, team working and communication skills.

To develop knowledge and understanding of issues in sustainable chemistry.
To develop a range of problem solving, team working, and written communication skills.
To discuss and critique key aspects of sustainability underpinning the role of chemistry in society.

describe chemical processes and demonstrate awareness by describing and explaining key aspects of global environmental, financial and societal issues surrounding chemistry: 1

research, plan and write written reports for a specified audience on aspects of chemistry related to sustainability, demonstrating effective information retrieval and written communication skills and complying with standards of referencing and presentation in chemistry appropriate to FHEQ Level 5: 2

Study hours

24 hours workshops;
126 hours independent study and preparation of assessed work.

Cap of 25 students.
Pre-requisite - A-level Chemistry or equivalent.
