Description for 2020/21

This module introduces students to a variety of contemporary issues in accounting by engaging with theoretical perspectives and empirical research. Content covered in the module will vary as conditions change, but may include intangible assets, narrative reporting, corporate social responsibility and other current topics discussed by the accounting profession, policy makers and academics. The module develops studentsż awareness of important developments in accounting research and their implications for accounting practice, providing them with key transferable employability skills.

Aims

This module aims to introduce students to contemporary issues in accounting by engaging with the theoretical perspectives and empirical research, to develop studentsż awareness of the important development in accounting research in relation to accounting theories and their implications to accounting practice.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Group Report weighted 20%
1,500 word Group report (3 to 5 students per group) supporting the group presentation (video recorded or narrated)
1,500 word Group report which tests studentsż knowledge and understanding of a particular contemporary accounting issue.

2: Group Presentation weighted 20%
Group presentation (recorded video or narrated)
The group presentation (3 to 5 students per group) on a particular contemporary accounting issue. The duration of the presentation is 10 minutes.

3: Assignment weighted 60%
A 2,500 words Individual assignment at the end of the module
The individual assignment will test studentsż knowledge and understanding of a particular contemporary accounting issue.
