Professor Ian Bell has been awarded the prestigious Honorary Fellowship by the British Association for American Studies for 2016.  The award is made annually in recognition of scholarly achievement and contribution to the field [a recent recipient was Professor Anthony Badger, Mellon Professor of American History and Master of Clare College Cambridge].  The Chair of the Association noted that the award was a 'tribute to the major role you have played over the span of your career, as well as for your tremendous scholarship and inspiring teaching,'  the citation, in part, affirms 'He is, without doubt, one of the most collegiate, supportive, principled and intellectually stimulating Americanists of his generation,' adding 'His research demonstrates the rare and enviable capacity to bring together a deep sensitivity to the qualities of the language, a thorough awareness of the broader historical, political, and cultural contexts, and an acute ability to bring new theoretical and conceptual insights to bear-all of this is done with a lightness of touch which makes his work always an absolute pleasure to read.'
