Biography

Matthew is a Senior Lecturer in Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) in the School of Allied Health Professions at Keele University.

He completed his PhD in Nuclear Physics at the University of Liverpool in 2008, working on the design and characterisation of radiation detectors and digital pulse processing.

Matthew then went on to complete two post-doctoral appointments: firstly, at the Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science where he designed and built a pre-clinical SPECT camera (2008-2012); and lastly at the Australian Synchrotron where he optimised the X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy and X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy beam-lines (2012-2013).

In 2013, Matthew was appointed as a Lecturer in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences at Monash University. In 2022, Matthew was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) at Keele University where he is continuing his primary research: the use of X-ray phase contrast imaging for low dose cancer detection; the optimisation of forensic examinations using imaging and data analytics; and the development of novel techniques for the assessment of patient diagnoses and advanced treatment planning.

Teaching

Dr Dimmock has experience as a diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy educator at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He currently teaches radiographers and other medical professionals that require knowledge of the principles of diagnostic imaging, along with supervising student research projects. Specific courses at Keele he is involved with include: Foundations of Radiographic Science, Principles of Measurement and Research and Exploring Radiation Protection.
