International Placement Opportunities at SAHP
Have you ever considered taking your studies to exciting places? At the School of Allied Health Professions we fully support opportunities for our students to pursue their studies in international credit bearing placements.
Recently we welcomed Laura Brown de Rodriguez, from Therapies Unite to discuss with Year 2 Physiotherapy students how the charity’s partnership with SAHP has enabled students to gain valuable experience in Mexico whilst also working for a meaningful cause. Therapies Unite, established in 2010 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, works with children and adults with physical and mental disabilities providing education and support to local services and providing long lasting change to the area.
Since 2013 the Catrin Pickles scholarship (funded via the Pickles’ family, SAHP and Santander) has supported 18 SAHP students to experience an international placement in Puerto Vallarta working with Therapies Unite providing essential services for the local community.
“Hard work, but a lot of fun in our free time”
Former SAHP alumni Liv Cunningham and Georgie Chetwood, who completed placements with Therapies Unite in 2017, delivered a presentation of their experiences fundraising for the charity prior to travelling and also their varied opportunities during their placement working in paediatrics, elderly care, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation.
As well as learning about our unique partnership with Therapies Unite, students also viewed presentations relating to other opportunities for International placements in Greece and India, with Helen Edwards, clinical education support tutor, leading a Skype Q&A with one of our partners.
