How to apply

When coming to to Keele as an international student you need to think about your options for student accommodation as early as possible.

For new students starting a course between September 2021 and June 2022, you can apply from March 2021. You will be sent an email with a link to an on-line accommodation form. You should submit your application as soon as possible.

As an International student you will be able, if you wish, to live in University accommodation provided you apply for it by the appropriate deadline. We have a variety of room types in four Halls of Residence. We also encourage International students to live off campus for part of their time at Keele in order to get a wider experience of life in England.

We are happy to help you with any questions you may have with on or off campus accommodation at Keele.

We will do our best to meet your requirements, however we cannot guarantee that we will be able to allocate your first preference of room type. You therefore need to complete all sections of the accommodation application form, indicating your second and third preferences too.

If your admission to Keele is conditional upon examination results, your application for accommodation will be looked at after your results are released and once you have confirmed your acceptance of your place at Keele.

When you receive your offer of accommodation you will have 3 days to accept this - after which the offer will expire. If you do not like the room that is offered to you and you decline it, you will not be offered another room. If you accept the room, you can register to a waiting list to try and change rooms after you arrive.

Once the Agreement is accepted you have a 7 day 'cooling-off period'. This means that if within 7 working days of accepting the Agreement you change your mind and notify us by email of that fact, you will be released from the Agreement. The contract is legally binding and if you change your mind you will still be liable for accommodation fees. You can only be released from the contract in exceptional circumstances such as taking a Leave of Absence or Withdrawing from the University. You may transfer your licence to another student as long as the transfer is done with the knowledge and prior written approval of the University Student Accommodation Office. The new licensee should be a suitable replacement which means that the balance of sexes and nationalities is not adversely affected within the accommodation.

As an International Fresher (new student) you may be asked to arrive earlier than Home students for the International Orientation Programme. We are not able to accommodate you before the agreed arrival date.

We understand that is it not always possible to arrive at Keele in the day time, but we do recommend that you try.  You may prefer to stay overnight in one of the hotels next to Manchester, Birmingham, Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Then you can travel to Keele during the day when it is easier and safer.

International Student Support operates a FREE Airport Tranfer Service for all new students who are arriving in the UK for the first time - find out more here
