A celebration of resilience, beauty, and the Northern spirit through the eyes of three iconic artists.
Join us at Keele University on Thursday 13th November 2025 for a compelling evening that brings together the grit of industrial heritage and the grace of artistic expression. “Grit and Grace” invites you to explore the legacy of Maurice Wade, Arthur Berry, and L.S. Lowry—three artists whose work captures the soul of the North.

Begin your evening with an exclusive viewing of selected works by Maurice Wade and Arthur Berry, two artists whose evocative portrayals of Northern life offer both raw emotion and poetic depth. We are excited to share with guests for the first time this evening, a selection of creative responses to the work by Year 1 Creative Writing Students from Keele University. There will be a welcome speech by art collector and Wade enthusiast Petr Hajek - owner of much of the work on display.

Evening Talk about L S Lowry by Michael Howard
Location: Keele Chapel
Time: Arrivals from 7.00pm | Talk begins at 7.30pm
Renowned art historian and Lowry expert Michael Howard will present a captivating talk on the life, work, and enduring legacy of L.S. Lowry. Discover the stories behind his compositions, the industrial landscapes, and the quiet genius of one of Britain’s most beloved artists. This special talk also features a rare opportunity to see L.S. Lowry’s iconic painting, Mill Gates—a cornerstone of British art.
Drinks on arrival and a further opportunity to browse and purchase prints and books.

We recommend you park on the SU Car Park on Keele Campus, this is free after 5pm and will mean you are closer to your car upon leaving the Chapel after the talk.
