Workshop: Light to Dark - In Charcoal
Three Counties Open Art Exhibition 2023

Join artist Daby Obiechefu in learning basics of drawing faces and tonal work exploring highlights and shadows work with dry mediums. Light to Dark is a workshop focused on portraiture where you will learn the basics of drawing faces and familiarising yourself with highlights and shadows. Drawing exercises will be included to enable you to practice different techniques and mark making. The aim is to release your creativity by adding your own character and meaning to your drawing while creating your masterpiece with charcoal and chalk.
Workshops are free, and and open to all - both young people and adults. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
This workshop is part of a series of free public workshops during the Three Counties Open Art exhibition, held at the historic Burslem School of Art in Stoke-on-Trent. Displaying the works of around 100 artists connected to Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, the show celebrates the creativity of the area in a range of mediums, styles and subject matter.
Open Tuesday-Saturday 11am-3pm daily.
Burslem School of Art is fully accessible, with Blue Badge parking at the front and rear of the building. If parking at the rear, please note that you will need to call the intercom to be buzzed in, and a member of staff will give you lift access via a key. The front of the building can be accessed by a ramp. About the artist
Daby Obiechefu is a multidisciplinary artist experienced in Realism painting, digital painting, performance, videography, installation and sculpture. Artistically, she is inspired by emotions, thoughts and experiences (her own and others). These are her stimuli, which aim to engage audiences, whilst creating an immersive and intriguing environment through the use of her multiple acquired techniques.
Obiechefu specialises in conceptual art and this enabled her works to be featured in exhibitions across Stoke on Trent, Keele, Newcastle-under-lyme, Lichfield, Nottingham and even Zimbabwe. She has co-curated exhibitions and is one of the many talented members of Kwanzaa Collective UK*.
