Welcome to the Write Direction

Hello and welcome to the Write Direction service.  When writing assignments do you ever find yourself lost for words, describing when you should be analysing, or waffling to reach the word count? Have you ever been frustrated by the experience of getting a suitcase full of books out of the library only to discover that none of them seem relevant to what you are doing? Does the very idea of writing an assignment fill you with dread and make daytime television a more alluring possibility than it ever ought to be? If so, you should consider pointing yourself towards the Write Direction.

What?

The Write Direction is a confidential service offering expert one-to-one advice on a wide range of topics including essay planning and structuring, effective reading for academic purposes, critical thinking, writing style, grammar, punctuation, note-taking, dissertation skills, reflection, time management, presentation skills and plagiarism. It is not a proof-reading service but we are happy to use assignments you are working on to help you develop skills that can be used in current and future work.

When, Where and How

The Write Direction drop-in takes places on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12.00pm until 3.00pm in Walter Moberly Building WM 0.14C. In busy times, it may be necessary to make an appointment to see one of our learning development specialists on a different day if so please contact us at curriculum.development@keele.ac.uk . We also offer online appointments every Friday from 12.00pm until 3.00pm Google Hangouts these slots can be booked via the tuneIN calendar.  

So...

It is easy to persuade yourself that a course is too difficult or you are simply not clever enough to make the grade. However, it is often possible to experience quite dramatic improvements in performance simply by making some practical changes to the way you do things. Coming to see us may well be a very positive step in the Write Direction.
