Configuring eduroam for Windows XP

> Select Start and then Control Panel

> Select Network and Internet Connections

> Then select Network Connections

If for any reason the Wireless Network Connection is disabled, right click on the icon and select enabled.

> Right click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties

> Under the General tab click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

> Then click Properties

> Ensure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected

> Click OK to close the window

> Once back in the Wireless Network Connection Properties window

> Select the Wireless Networks tab

> Click the Add... button

> Enter eduroam as the Network name (SSID)

> Check the tickbox for Connect even if this network is not broadcasting

Set Network Authentication to WPA

Set Data Encryption to TKIP

> Click on the Authentication tab

Set the EAP type to Protected EAP (PEAP)

Click Properties

> Untick Authenticate as computer when computer information is available

> Untick Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is available

> Make sure Validate server certificate is NOT checked

> Change the Select Authentication Method option to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)

> Click Configure

> Make sure Automatically use my Windows logon name is NOT checked

> Click OK on all open dialog windows until you return to the Network Connections window.

 

> Now try to connect to the eduroam network via the Windows wireless manager

> When you try to connect you will see a notification bubble pop-up in the bottom right of you screen:

> Click on the notification bubble and you will be shown a login prompt

> Username: Enter your Keele Email Address

> Password: Enter your Keele IT Password

> Logon domain: Should be left empty

> Once authenticated the first time, Windows will remember your logon credentials so you will not need to enter these again.
