Celebrating 50th Anniversary - Keele University

Reflecting on the 50th Anniversary of the Charter Year

A special programme of events and initiatives were organised during 2012 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Charter of Incorporation to the University of Keele.

These included:

  • Overseas Alumni Events and Visits to Partner HE Institutions
  • A Community Open Day
  • The Official Opening of The Nova Centre by Business Secretary, Dr Vince Cable MP
  • The 50th Anniversary of Keele's Observatory 
  • The Official Opening of the new Day Nursery and Public Lecture by Dr Maggie Atkinson, Children's Commissioner for England
  • The Official Naming of the Davd Weatherall Building and Public Lecture by Professor Sir Alex Markham
  • Three World Affairs Group lectures delivered by Lord Rees of Ludlow, Sir Michael Aaronson and Professor Stephen White 
  • A special reception at the House of Lords
  • A series of live poetry readings from acclaimed poet and writer, Simon Armitage and Poets Laureate of England and Wales, Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke
  • The Charter Year Telethon: engaging Keele alumni in the future of the University
  • The Campus Library 50th Anniversary Exhibition
  • The Official Opening of the Forest of Light and Union Square

We'd like to thank all those who attended and supported each of our celebratory events throughout 2012 to make Keele's 50th Anniversary a truly special and remarkable year.
