Keele Key Fund Telethon Worker
This application form also gives you the opportunity to apply to be a Keele Key Fund Telethon Worker. The Keele Key Fund Telethon raises funds from former students (Alumni) for the Keele Key Fund, which provides financial support to enhance the Keele experience for current and future students.
This is a one-off work opportunity which does NOT involve cold calling and can really improve your communication skills. You would be part of a team and would be given professional training and a script to work from.
Additional training is required for this role. If you wish to apply ONLY for the role of Keele Fund Telethon Caller, and NOT the Keele Student Ambassador role then please apply here.
Please note the closing date for this application is Wednesday 11th October 2013 and the training will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November.
I started as a telethon caller in my 1st year of university and found that I enjoyed the experience immensely! Not only was I able to talk to people (something I do a lot!) who had been in the same situation as myself at Keele but I managed to make friendships along the way. My role within the telethon campaign progressed and I was given the honour of being assistant campaign manager during my 2nd & 3rd year which allowed me to continue doing something I believed in but also let me grow into a more responsible and mature person in my new found senior role. The telethon and alumni team have helped me gain confidence in myself both over the telephone to absolute strangers and in person when speaking to my peers and superiors. I have gained skills such as negotiation, phone etiquette and most importantly, how to listen to a person. These skills have definitely helped me in my course at Keele and my career as the telethon as taught me to appreciate a situation and also take rejection/criticism in a professional manner. I would encourage any student at Keele to become a telethon caller.Zoe Richards, 2011-2012 Team Assistant Manager
It was very interesting being able to speak to past students and hearing about their time at Keele and about things had changed over the years. Many were very interested in hearing about the changes and improvements to Keele. I found working as part of the Telethon group a real boost to my confidence in speaking to new people, which has been useful in my current role.

Doing the telethon made me feel more involved with the University and gave me an appreciation for the work that goes on behind the scenes at Keele. I was fortunate enough to make new friends and earn a bit of money so overall it was a great experience
