Hawthorns Hall
Hawthorns Hall is in quiet Keele village and provides rooms where over 600 students live.
In 1060 Henry II gifted Keele to the Templar Knights, and many areas bear witness to this (for example in Keele village, we have Knights Croft and our bar at Hawthorns is called Templar Bar). To this day, Hawthorns has kept its sense of a unique community. It is a vibrant and energetic place to live.
Hawthorns has a variety of room types:
Blocks A-F
Traditional University Blocks with Washbasin (band b) Catered
Blocks G-M
Traditional University Blocks with Washbasin (band B)
Blocks N-S & Templar House
Traditional University Blocks with Washbasin (band A).
Blocks T-Z
Flats
The Mews
Catered en-suite
Single Occupancy Flats
We have a selection of self-contained flats which are available for single occupancy. These may appeal to those who want to experience campus life, without communal living. They are also located within the halls of residence and are within walking distance of bars, launderettes and common rooms.
Comments from our students give you a flavour of what its like to live at Hawthorns....
It's great, we're all friends and support each other and help each other out where necessary and, when going out, we all go out together so there is no coming home on your own.
Great - sociable, friendly and easy
I've found living in Hawthorns a great way to adapt to university life. It's so social: everyone's in the same boat and even though people might have preconceived thoughts about sharing bathrooms with 27 other people, there really is nothing to worry about. I haven't had any problems and it's usually a talking point when you tell other people about where you are living. The kitchens are really communal, everyone helping everyone else out when they have no idea how long to boil an egg for.
Templar Bar is also a great way to meet new people living on your site. It's a place to go with your block when you just want to chill out and do a pub quiz, play some pool, or generally get a bit tipsy on a budget.
