Car Parking
Parking is only available to all students resident off campus. Students residing on campus are not permitted to bring a car onto the campus unless they are disabled, either permanently or temporarily, or are studying certain specified courses which require attendance on placements off campus. Students with temporary mobility issues must make application for dispensation by application to the Centre for Learning and Student Support. You must have valid driving documents before applying to bring a vehicle onto campus.
Applying for A Perking Permit
- You can obtain an application form for a permit from Security or the Chancellor’s Building Reception
- Complete the application and return it, with your original driving licence, certificate of insurance and MOT test certiificate (if applicable) to the Chancellor's Building Reception
- If your application’s successful, you will be issued with a parking permit and permission will be granted for you to bring a vehicle onto the campus for the academic year
- Only one such application is allowed per person and is valid for the applicant’s use only
- The University reserves the right to restrict the number of permits issued
- Non compliance with these regulations could be considered for action under Student Discipline Procedures
- Motorcycle owners don’t have to apply for a permit. Motorcycles must, however, be parked in an appropriate space. Obstructing footpaths or similar disregard for safety may result in a civil penalty notice
- If you are registered disabled you may use any marked disabled parking whilst displaying the 'blue badge'. Temporary mobility issues may be considered for special dispensation by application to Student Support Services
- Your permit must be clearly displayed on the windscreen of the vehicle to which it relates and the vehicle parked only in the Halls of Residence car parks or car park F at Horwood in designated bays during the period Monday to Friday 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Parking during evenings and at weekends is not subject to any restriction
- If you lose your permit, you will be charged for a new one. If your vehicle is stolen or damaged to the extent that the parking permit is lost you’ll get a free replacement. Please note you must provide a Police report and Incident Number.

Vehicle Security
Whilst the incidence of crime on this campus is very low, theft of vehicles and of the property within vehicles can happen occasionally. There are some simple precautions that a vehicle owner can take, to minimise this risk:
- Have an alarm and an immobiliser fitted to the vehicle.
- Ensure the vehicle is secure when you leave it, close all the windows and lock all the doors.
- Do not leave valuables, bags or briefcases where they can be seen.
- If your vehicle is fitted with a removable radio fascia, then remove it.
- When leaving the vehicle, make sure that you have the keys with you and that they are not still in the lock. (Yes, Security have found keys sitting in the door locks!).
