Are all first years placed together?

No they are allocated in various Halls of Residence throughout the University.

Can I bring a car?

Parking is not generally available for resident students. To find out more about the exemptions follow this link Apply for a Parking Permit

What comes with my room?

Your room is fully equipped with bed, noticeboard, wardrobe, desk, shelves, internet access and telephone.

Can I have food provided?

All accommodation is self catering although we have created a wide variety of food outlets and meal options that allow you to eat according to your lifestyle and schedule.. However we do have catered accommodation at Hawthorns.

What is provided in the kitchens?

Your kitchen is fully fitted and we provide cooking facilities, a fridge, a freezer and a kettle, some also have microwaves,   so all you will need to bring is cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. We also have vacuum cleaners, irons and ironing boards if you need to borrow them.

Can I have a partner live with me?

Most accommodation is let as single occupancy. However we have some flats and houses available for couples and families - details are available on request.  Alternatively you will need to find accommodation off campus. For more information and help about living off campus click here.

How long can I stay in the accommodation?

This will depend on where you live.  This information will be specified in your Accommodation Contract. If you need to live on campus at Easter you should NOT  apply for a 33 week  let. If you will be a finalist, a 42 week let will ensure you have a room until after the Graduation Ball.

Do I have to pay extra for things like the Internet, electricity and gas?

No, this is included in the accommodation fee. We also include basic contents insurance this does not cover insurance for bikes you will need to arrange this serperately.

Can I make phone calls from my room?

Yes, there is a phone  for you to use in your room. You will just be charged for the calls you make. For more information click here

Can I smoke in the halls of residence?

No, all accommodation at Keele University is non-smoking.

How many people are in my block?

It will depend on which Hall you are allocated a room in. Blocks can be as small as 14 and as large as 238 bedrooms.

Do I have to get insurance for my belongings?

No, insurance is included in the accommodation fee, however you are advised to check that this provides sufficient cover for all the item you will bring with you.  Follow this link for more information - Insurance.

If I want a TV in my room, do I need a license?

Yes you will need a TV license if you bring a TV or use your PC to watch TV. TV reception on campus is variable and you can subscribe to Freeview via your PC.

Can I put posters up in my room?

Yes but you must use the pin boards. You will be charged for any damage caused if you put posters elsewhere.

I want to change rooms – what can I do?

If you are unhappy with your allocated room,  you can ask for your name to go on the waiting list.

I want to wash my clothes – where do I do it and how much does it cost?

There are launderettes available at each Hall which have coin operated machines. It costs £2.50 for a wash and £1 for the tumble dryer.  There are irons and ironing boards available in the Halls.

How can I get on the Internet in my room?

Internet access is available in almost all rooms.

If I order an online supermarket delivery, can I get it delivered to my room?

Yes,  but you will need to collect it from your block entrance as delivery drivers are not allowed in the accommodation. It can be cheaper to club together with friends for some items.

Can I have a pet in my room?

The University has a no pet policy.   No animals are allowed in the halls of residence as people may be allergic to them and they tend to attract rodents and vermin. Guide dogs are allowed.

I’ve been told I am sharing a room, what does this mean?

To accommodate as many freshers as we can, some students will be asked to share on a temporary basis.  We try to minimise the amount of time you will share for.  As soon as we can we move those who are sharing into their own rooms.

What are shared rooms like?

Temporary shared rooms have bunk beds but otherwise are as standard rooms with desk & chair, wardrobe and shelves.

I can’t afford the £450 upfront payment – what are my options?

I came through UCAS Clearing, will I still get accommodation on campus?

Applicants holding Keele as their first choice will gain a higher priority of receiving accommodation.

How secure is the campus?

We work hard to make the campus at Keele a safe and secure place to live and study. The 24 hour Security Team assisted by Campus Police help minimise the amount of crime.
